Making the Case for… Part 4: Carlo Ancelotti

By the ‘#ABW XI’s’ Kris Carpenter (@AFCfreddie8)

Almost immediately after coming up with the concept for this series, I knew I wanted Kris to get a kick at this subject.  We’re delighted anytime we can get one of the ABW XI to blog and Kris’ knowledge of European football is superb.

We’ve had to wait for this 4th and final part to our “Making the Case” series because Kris is a busy man with his ABW appearances, appearances on other pods, managing the world famous Barbican Pirates, etc, etc…but I think it has been worth the wait.  His choice of Ancelotti has been a constant request from you the readers since we started the series a couple weeks ago.

We’ve had a lot of great feedback and working collaboratively is something we’ll look at doing again in the future.  You can check out Part 1 on Frank de Boer here, Part 2 on Roberto Martínez here, and Part 3 on keeping it in house here.

Making the Case for Carlo Ancelotti

As a staunch ‘Wenger In’ man myself, even the thought of picking the next manager for The Arsenal feels somewhat troubling, but even people like me have to accept that someday, likely in the not too distant future, Arsène’s reign will come to an end and that next man will need to be put in place.

Here is my view on why Carlo Ancelotti should be that man.

Click on the book to buy the book from the publishers and use the promo code BERGKAMP to get a discount.

If you want to support the authors of the book’s they get more money if you buy the book’s from their publishers rather than Amazon as Amazon take a bigger cut of any sales.

If you buy both books I think that the postage will still only be £2.90 rather than £2.90 per book as they charge by weight but do ask them first.

Making the Case for… Part 3: Keeping it in House

By ‘#ABW Regular Columnist’ Jake Arsenal (@JakeArsenal1)

Welcome to Part 3 of our series on potential managerial successors to Arsène Wenger.  In this part, ABW Regular Columnist Jake Arsenal (@JakeArsenal1) has a slightly different take on who should manage Arsenal once Arsène Wenger decides to move on.  Give it a read and let us know what you think.

Also, you can check out Part 1 on Frank de Boer here and Part 2 on Roberto Martínez here. Our fourth and final blog in the series, written by none other than the ABW XI’s Kris Carpenter (@AFCfreddie8), will be published over the coming days.  Be sure to keep your eyes out for it.

Making the Case for Keeping it in House

When I think of Arsenal, I think of class, tradition, the great players and managers who have come and gone, and most of all, I think family. It’s something that’s been around every day of my life for as long as I can remember. Whatever side of the fence you sit on in regards to Arsène, he is still a big part of this family. And when he goes, like it or not, he’s going to leave a big hole in our club.

But in this specific family, we don’t mourn the loss of a manager like the death of a loved one, we celebrate a new era and what it could bring, and for some that wait can’t come soon enough.

Making the Case for Roberto Martínez

“I’m sure Arsène will have some input in choosing his successor. Roberto Martínez? He seems like a good man.”

Those were the words of ex-Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood speaking back in March of this year. The quote provides a good starting point with which to look at the dilemma of who will one day replace Arsène Wenger.

Making the Case for… Part 1: Frank de Boer

By ‘#ABW Chief Blogger’ The Other Geoff (@Hollefreund)

A few weeks ago, I approached our Regular Columnists, Simon Collings (@sr_collings) and Jake Arsenal (@JakeArsenal1) with a unique proposal – what if the three of us all wrote a blog on the same subject and presented each of our views in a multi-part series?

While we all share a common passion for Arsenal, our views and opinions tend to vary quite a bit – which is a good thing. Not to mention that it would give you guys something to check-out during the International Break.

Along the way, I invited our friend from the ABW XI, Kris Carpenter (@AFCfreddie8), to write a fourth part and I’m excited he’s said “yes.”

The subject of this series is who, in our opinion, could succeed Arsène Wenger? I didn’t give the guys many restrictions other than that – just pick who you think and explain why. Interestingly, no one picked Klopp. That’s not to say Klopp wouldn’t make an excellent manager for the Arsenal – he probably would – but he’s the obvious choice at the moment. Our picks are a little less apparent.

So today we kick off the series with my take on the subject of who could succeed Arsène. I hope you enjoy it and stay tuned over the next 10 days for parts 2, 3, and 4.

He might bring Dennis with him.

And so concludes my argument.  Thanks guys, you’ve been great – try the veal.

In all seriousness, there’s been a lot of speculation about the future of Arsène Wenger – will he continue once his contract expires in 2.5 years?  Who should be his replacement?  How will Arsenal fare without him?

Why Wenger Won’t be Buying a World-Class Defender in January

By ‘#ABW Regular Columnist’ Simon Collings (@sr_collings)

Somewhere in the halls of the Emirates Stadium.

Agent of Player X: Thanks for taking the time to speak to my client and I in person Arsène, it means a lot. I am glad we finally managed to agree a fee between the two clubs, even though it was less than they were asking for. My client is happy with the salary you are offering, even though it means him taking a pay-cut, but we have just one more query.

Wenger: Yes sure, no problem. What is it?

Agent of Player X: What is his likelihood of featuring in the first-team on a regular basis? As that is what he really wants and other clubs have promised it.

Wenger: I cannot guarantee any player a spot in my team, but we have to compete on many fronts for titles so he will play. Plus, we often get injuries so I am sure he’ll feature at points.

Agent of Player X: Ah okay, well let my client and I leave and have a think about this. Continue reading
