Abilene or GTFO

Have you ever been to Abilene, Texas?

If you’re like me then the answer is a resounding “NO.”  I’m also quick to add that I have no plans to go to Abilene, Texas… ever.  It’s not that I don’t like Texas – I do.  It’s just – well – my preference is to go just about anywhere else.

Consider the following situation:

You and your two friends are drinking cold refreshments on a shaded porch in Coleman, Texas – nearly 53 miles from Abilene.  It’s mid-afternoon and the sun is beating down but you’re comfortable; and there are plenty of more cold refreshments in the fridge 10 feet away.  Life is good.

Why Morgan Schneiderlin Should be Wenger’s Number One Target

Back in 2008 Arsène Wenger was once again scouring the French leagues for talent. Along with scout Gilles Grimandi, he had come across an 18-year-old who had caught his eye. A talented midfielder, with composure and skill on the ball, the Arsenal boss was contemplating making a move for his services.

The player in question was Morgan Schneiderlin.

In the end Wenger opted against making a move. The youngster was hungry to play football and as a result Wenger recommended him to Southampton. The Championship club heeded the Arsenal manager’s advice and swooped for Schneiderlin, beating their rivals Portsmouth to his signature. At £1.2m, the Saints had snagged a bargain.

The Only Way is Up

Monday the 9th of February. A blue Monday if ever there was one. Back to work, school, reality and all with a terrible hangover from the weekend before – the hang over of the North London derby. An infuriatingly frustrating loss at the hands of that lad who is apparently ‘One of their own’. It’s never O.K. to lose to Spurs, but it is unacceptable to be well beaten by them. The barrage of abuse we have all faced from Spurs fans today had me thinking to myself, how could Arsenal let this happen?, but I quickly realised we will have the last laugh as always.

Sure, we lost the game we all want to win the most and they’ve mugged 4pts off of us this season, but our prospects for this season are looking good. We will finish above them in the league because, well, we just will, we are better than them. We are up against a beatable opponent in the last 16 of the Champions League, a match a spurs fan would sell their mother to be in, and on paper at least, one would be forgiven for thinking the FA cup is extremely retainable. Thinking on these terms, I’ve decided to write this blog to take a look at what’s left to play for this season and why we can leave this derby disaster in the rear view mirror.

The Mesut of Arsenal

Just who is Mesut Özil at Arsenal football club? Our club’s record signing, and current iteration of the man we signed from Real Madrid, is a player whom so many expected to be the tonic to lift us in to the stratosphere of the footballing elite. And while things have yet to reach that height for him at Arsenal, there is every chance that the Mesut of Arsenal can realize that potential in the coming years.

The Mesut Özil who came to Arsenal – who hit the ground running, and at the time galvanised the team after a shock defeat to Aston Villa on the opening day of last season, isn’t exactly the same player he was at Real Madrid. It must have been hard to be sure what his new role was. Sure he could still perform the silky passes, and beat his man with minimal effort, but what was he to become for Arsenal football club.

Wenger’s Got Himself a Brazilian

I have read quite a few articles over the last week about Arsenal’s latest Brazilian signing Gabriel Armando de Abreu, hold on I hear you say, his name is “Gabriel Paulista.”  Well this is driving me nuts and it’s why I’ve decided to write my first ever blog.

Calling him “Paulista” is just wrong as Paulista is an area in São Paulo a state in Brazil where he comes from (like Islington is part of London).  By this logic, Tony Adams would have been called “Tony Islington” but just calling Tony Adams “Islington” would be wrong – yes I know I’m probably being pedantic but it’s what I do best.
