ABW Bloggers’ Season Preview Part 3: Transfer Business

Welcome back to another season at A Bergkamp Wonderland. Along with the Podcast and #ABW Radio, the blogging side of things has shaken off the cobwebs of lazy Sundays and idle transfer speculation as we’re ready to return to writing about the team we all love, the Arsenal.

To kick things off, we’re bringing you a special four part Bloggers’ Season Preview this week. We’ve all gotten together to write a few words on a given topic. For Part 3, we all weighed in on our transfer business this summer with each of us getting just 250 words – a tough job since we all like to explain ourselves. We hope you enjoy it and be sure to check back tomorrow for Part 4.

You can find Part 1 on our Best XI’s here and Part 2 on Players to Watch here.

Preseason, Fitness, Shad Forsythe and the Arsenal

Dom (@OZGooner49) decided to enlighten us this week on preseason and before he knew it, I tricked him into blogging this information to share with you guys.  It should also be noted that this blog came across my desk before news of Jack’s injury was known, so there is no mention of it in this article.  ~ OG

So here we are again on the cusp of another premier league campaign. If you are anything like me, you’ve been walking around at half mast for the past few weeks at the thought of the season getting underway. As nice as it is to win some silverware during preseason, and to witness Arsène ghost past Mourinho like the crazy ex-girlfriend he was trying to avoid, its just not quite the same as the real stuff. While we have all been going crazy on Twitter with the silly season and spending Arsenal’s £200m ‘war chest’, the players have been hard at work on the pitch preparing for the grueling campaign ahead. This is what I want to touch on in this piece, and not in a Rolf Harris kind of way.

To kick things off, we’re bringing you a special four part Bloggers’ Season Preview this week. We’ve all gotten together to write a few words on a given topic. In Part 2, the assignment was to highlight a potential player to watch this year and to talk about a young player that could have a breakout season.  It’s a tough job since we only gave ourselves 400 words to do it. We hope you enjoy it and be sure to check back tomorrow for Part 3.

You can find Part 1 on our Best XI’s here if you missed it.

Arsenal’s End of Season Report Card

sc banner

So the season is over and in the words of Alice Cooper ‘school is out for summer.’ And with the end of term comes the dreaded report card. Who’s failed? Who’s got straight As? Here we take a look at the Arsenal squad of 2014/15 and assess their performances.

Before we begin, a few house rules. I have only graded players who have appeared at least 10 times. So the likes of Abou Diaby and Gabriel Paulista have been excused from a dressing down.

As for the marks themselves, they are out of 10 and are my opinion. Abuse for my decisions are welcome, as is the odd flicker of praise.

So, to business…

Coquelin, Özil and Wenger’s Attacking Triumvirate

There is no chance at all that any of us have come down from the collective high after Arsenal won it’s record 12th FA Cup and 2nd in as many years. But time unfortunately will not stand still, and as the wheels turned when I woke up this morning and instantly started to consider what (at least for me) needs to transpire this summer, I was immediately galvanized to write my final piece for ABW this season.

Francis Coquelin

He’s been the talk of the north part of town for the second half of the season. Door crashing into London Colney after being on loan at Charlton, and being one of the key catalysts for our march to a third place finish and FA Cup glory.

But as the season has begun to wind down and many looking ahead to summer business and next season, many are asking the question as to what will happen to the Frenchman with regards to his place in Wenger’s XI.
